    Exploring Privacy-traces of Users from Online Community: A Case Study of Diabetes Topic Discussions

    Online health communities (OHCs) have already become essential medium for people to obtain medical knowledge, share experiences and emotions. OHC users are able to post user-generated content (UGC) to interact with each other. However, the large amount of UGC may lead to personal information even privacy disclosed online. Although such disclosure may help users to trade some social support, which is the basis of sustaining a successful OHC, the users should be aware of the risks of leaving such traces online. This study selects a popular online Q & A community ā€œZhihuā€ in China as the research target. By collecting all questions and corresponding answers from 4 diabetes sub-communities, we would like to identify online privacy-traces of users from UGC. According to the theory of Communication Privacy Management, we build an explanatory model to understand user behaviors of concealing or revealing private information from the aspects of user characteristics, peer attention, and social support effects

    Cascaded Reconstruction Network for Compressive image sensing

    The theory of compressed sensing (CS) has been successfully applied to image compression in the past few years, whose traditional iterative reconstruction algorithm is time-consuming. However, it has been reported deep learning-based CS reconstruction algorithms could greatly reduce the computational complexity. In this paper, we propose two efficient structures of cascaded reconstruction networks corresponding to two different sampling methods in CS process. The first reconstruction network is a compatibly sampling reconstruction network (CSRNet), which recovers an image from its compressively sensed measurement sampled by a traditional random matrix. In CSRNet, deep reconstruction network module obtains an initial image with acceptable quality, which can be further improved by residual network module based on convolutional neural network. The second reconstruction network is adaptively sampling reconstruction network (ASRNet), by matching automatically sampling module with corresponding residual reconstruction module. The experimental results have shown that the proposed two reconstruction networks outperform several state-of-the-art compressive sensing reconstruction algorithms. Meanwhile, the proposed ASRNet can achieve more than 1 dB gain, as compared with the CSRNet.Comment: 17 pages,16 figure

    Rosiglitazone Attenuated Endothelin-1-Induced Vasoconstriction of Pulmonary Arteries in the Rat Model of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension via Differential Regulation of ET-1 Receptors

    Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a fatal disease characterized by a progressive increase in pulmonary arterial pressure leading to right ventricular failure and death. Activation of the endothelin (ET)-1 system has been demonstrated in plasma and lung tissue of PAH patients as well as in animal models of PAH. Recently, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor Ī³ (PPARĪ³) agonists have been shown to ameliorate PAH. The present study aimed to investigate the mechanism for the antivasoconstrictive effects of rosiglitazone in response to ET-1 in PAH. Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to chronic hypoxia (10% oxygen) for 3 weeks. Pulmonary arteries from PAH rats showed an enhanced vasoconstriction in response to ET-1. Treatment with PPARĪ³ agonist rosiglitazone (20ā€‰mg/kg per day) with oral gavage for 3 days attenuated the vasocontractive effect of ET-1. The effect of rosiglitazone was lost in the presence of L-NAME, indicating a nitric oxide-dependent mechanism. Western blotting revealed that rosiglitazone increased ETBR but decreased ETAR level in pulmonary arteries from PAH rats. ETBR antagonist A192621 diminished the effect of rosiglitazone on ET-1-induced contraction. These results demonstrated that rosiglitazone attenuated ET-1-induced pulmonary vasoconstriction in PAH through differential regulation of the subtypes of ET-1 receptors and, thus, provided a new mechanism for the therapeutic use of PPARĪ³ agonists in PAH

    Stroke Extraction of Chinese Character Based on Deep Structure Deformable Image Registration

    Stroke extraction of Chinese characters plays an important role in the field of character recognition and generation. The most existing character stroke extraction methods focus on image morphological features. These methods usually lead to errors of cross strokes extraction and stroke matching due to rarely using stroke semantics and prior information. In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based character stroke extraction method that takes semantic features and prior information of strokes into consideration. This method consists of three parts: image registration-based stroke registration that establishes the rough registration of the reference strokes and the target as prior information; image semantic segmentation-based stroke segmentation that preliminarily separates target strokes into seven categories; and high-precision extraction of single strokes. In the stroke registration, we propose a structure deformable image registration network to achieve structure-deformable transformation while maintaining the stable morphology of single strokes for character images with complex structures. In order to verify the effectiveness of the method, we construct two datasets respectively for calligraphy characters and regular handwriting characters. The experimental results show that our method strongly outperforms the baselines.     Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Ī³

    Lipid phosphate phosphohydrolase 1 (LPP1), a membrane ectophosphohydrolase regulating the availability of bioactive lipid phosphates, plays important roles in cellular signaling and physiological processes such as angiogenesis and endothelial migration. However, the regulated expression of LPP1 remains largely unknown. Here, we aimed to examine a role of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor Ī³ (PPARĪ³) in the transcriptional control of LPP1 gene expression. In human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) demonstrated that activation of PPARĪ³ increased the mRNA level of LPP1. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assay showed that PPARĪ³ binds to the putative PPAR-responsive elements (PPREs) within the 5ā€²-flanking region of the human LPP1 gene. Genomic fragment containing 1.7-kilobase of the promoter region was cloned by using PCR. The luciferase reporter assays demonstrated that overexpression of PPARĪ³ and rosiglitazone, a specific ligand for PPARĪ³, could significantly upregulate the reporter activity. However, site-directed mutagenesis of the PPRE motif abolished the induction. In conclusion, our results demonstrated that PPARĪ³ transcriptionally activated the expression of LPP1 gene in ECs, suggesting a potential role of PPARĪ³ in the metabolism of phospholipids

    The Role of Immune Cells in the Pathogenesis of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

    Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a devastating disease of unknown etiology with limited treatment options. The role of the immune system in IPF has received increasing attention. Uncontrolled immune responses drive the onset and progression of IPF. This article provides an overview of the role of innate immune cells (including macrophages, neutrophils, mast cells, eosinophils, dendritic cells, nature killer cells, nature kill cells and Ī³Ī“ T cells) and adaptive immune cells (including Th1 cells, Th2 cells, Th9 cells, Th17 cells, Th22 cells, cytotoxic T cells, B lymphocytes and Treg cells) in IPF. In addition, we review the current status of pharmacological treatments for IPF and new developments in immunotherapy. A deeper comprehension of the immune systemā€™s function in IPF may contribute to the development of targeted immunomodulatory therapies that can alter the course of the disease

    Histone Deacetylase HDA15 Restrains PHYB-Dependent Seed Germination via Directly Repressing GA20ox1/2 Gene Expression

    Seed germination is essential for the colonization of the land plants. Light is a major environmental factor affecting seed germination, which is predominantly regulated by photoreceptor phytochrome B (PHYB). PHYB is activated by red light (designated as PHYB-on) whereas it is inactivated by far-red light (referred as PHYB-off). We previously reported that Arabidopsis histone deacetylase HDA15 interacts with phytochrome-interacting factor1 (PIF1) to repress seed germination under PHYB-off conditions. Here, we show that HDA15 plays a negative role in regulating seed germination under PHYB-on conditions. Overexpression of HDA15 in Arabidopsis restrains PHYB-dependent seed germination, while gibberellin (GA) relieves the repressive role of HDA15 under PHYB-off conditions. We further show that HDA15 directly binds to GA20ox1 and GA20ox2, two key GA biosynthesis genes and represses their expression by removal of histone H3 and H4 acetylation. Moreover, the levels of HDA15 transcript and HDA15 protein are up-regulated in the phyB mutant. Collectively, our work proposes that HDA15 acts as a negative regulator of PHYB-dependent seed germination by directly repressing GA20ox1/2 gene expression

    MicroRNA-199a-5p Induced Autophagy and Inhibits the Pathogenesis of Ankylosing Spondylitis by Modulating the mTOR Signaling via Directly Targeting Ras Homolog Enriched in Brain (Rheb)

    Background/Aims: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is an inflammatory and immune disease leading to disability. Autophagy has been identified as a potential player in understanding the pathogenesis of AS. Methods: MiRNA-199a-5p and autophagy-related gene expression were determined by qRT-PCR or Western blot. Cytokine production was determined using ELISA assays. Proliferation was determined by MTT assay. MiRNA-199a-5p and Ras homolog enriched in brain (Rheb) were upregulated or downregulated by overexpression of plasmid or siRNA transfection. Results: Expression of miRNA-199a-5p, and autophagy-related genes LC3, beclin1, and ATG5 was significantly decreased in T cells of AS patients. Serum concentrations of TNF-Ī±, IL-17, and IL-23 were promoted in AS patients, compared to healthy controls. MiRNA-199a-5p expression levels also showed significant negative correlations with the Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Score (ASDAS) and modified Stoke Ankylosing Spon dylitis Spinal Score (mSASSS) of AS patients. In Jurkat T cells and T cells isolated from AS patients, miRNA-199a-5p overexpression promoted autophagy-related genes expression and decreased TNF-Ī±, IL-17, and IL-23 levels, whereas inhibition of miRNA-199a-5p attenuated these effects. As a direct target of miRNA-199a-5p, Rheb inhibition led to a striking decrease in the phosphorylation of the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) and induced autophagy. Moreover, pcDNA3.1-Rheb effectively reduced the inhibiting effects of mTOR signaling caused by miRNA-199a-5p overexpression. All effects were offset by pretreating with rapamycin (an mTOR antagonist). Conclusions: AS patients with advanced spinal damage had decreased autophagy levels and that miRNA-199a-5p may induce autophagy and inhibit the pathogenesis of AS by modulating the mTOR signaling via direct targeting Rheb

    Scene Text Segmentation via Inverse Rendering

    Abstractā€”Recognizing text in natural photographs that contain specular highlights and focal blur is a challenging problem. In this paper we describe a new text segmentation method based on inverse rendering, i.e. decomposing an input image into basic rendering elements. Our technique uses iterative optimization to solve the rendering parameters, including light source, material properties (e.g. diffuse/specular reflectance and shininess) as well as blur kernel size. We combine our segmentation method with a recognition component and show that by accounting for the rendering parameters, our approach achieves higher text recognition accuracy than previous work, particularly in the presence of color changes and image blur. In addition, the derived rendering parameters can be used to synthesize new text images that imitate the appearance of an existing image. I

    Impact of Farmland Change on Vegetation NPP in the One River and Two Streams Region of Tibet

    Studies on the impacts of a particular land use type change are relatively rare, especially in the Tibetan Plateau region (TP). This study focused on the impacts of farmland use change on grain supply and ecosystem stability in the Yarlung Zangbo river and its two tributaries (also known as One River and Two Streams, ORTS), using net primary productivity (NPP), known as the total amount of organic matter left after removal of carbon absorbed from the atmosphere by vegetation through photosynthesis, as a common proxy for farmland productivity and ecosystem stability. The trend analysis method was applied to measure the inter-annual change of NPP, and an ecological impact index was constructed to quantify the impact of farmland use change on the NPP change in the ORTS region. The results showed that: (1) The total area of farmland decreased by 6.09% from 2000 to 2018. Built-up land occupation and ecological restoration were the main reasons for the decrease of farmland area, while there was also new reclaimed farmland, transferred from ecological land. (2) The NPP in the ORTS region was roughly on an increasing trend, while the trends of NPP in different farmland change areas were not the same. Specifically, the NPP of ecological restoration, newly reclaimed farmland, and unchanged farmland areas all showed a significant increasing trend, while the NPP in the area of farmland occupied by built-up land showed a significant decreasing trend. (3) The impact of farmland changes from 2000 to 2018 contributed 1.22% to the increase of NPP in the ORTS region. This study not only provides a research paradigm in quantifying the production and ecological impacts of a particular land use type change that can be applied in related studies in other regions, but at the same time, the results of the empirical analysis in the ORTS region can also provide suggestions for the rational use and conservation of farmland and the stability and sustainable development of ecosystems for the region and even the TP
